Youth Futures

The Black Law Students’ Association (BLSA) of the University of Ottawa strives to create a positive community that supports students in achieving their goal of pursuing a career in law. To do so, the BLSA hosts the annual Youth Futures program. We provide skills, resources, support, and practical experience to Black high school students and Black undergraduate students through mentoring, panels, and workshops taking place at the University of Ottawa.

Every year, a group of over 100 French- and/or English-speaking students ranging from 16 to 21 years old in age attend the event.

Youth Futures is an opportunity for students to gain :

  • Mentoring from law students attending the University of Ottawa;

  • Exposure to legal reasoning through reviews of case law;

  • Insight from discussions regarding legal issues that affect Black communities;

  • Knowledge and advice regarding the Ontario law school application process;

  • Testimonials from recent Black alumni and legal professionals working in either Ottawa’s public or private sector;

  • Connecting with other students living in Ottawa who wish to pursue a career in law and creating a strong network.
